What are the most dangerous ingredients on the market?
This is a list of ingredients that have been linked to many dangerous conditions. Many have been proven to be toxic to humans.
1) Sodium Benzoate. A common food preservative that prevents the growth of mold and yeasts. When combined with vitamins C or E, it produces the carcinogen benzene. Sodium benzoate deprives our mitochondria (cellular energy-makers) of oxygen. It has also been linked to hyperactivity in children. Sodium Benzoate Is most often found in: Juices, pickles, sodas, pre-made salad dressings, condiments.
2) BHA & BHT (Butylated hydroxyanisole & butylated hydroxytoluene). A preservative that prevents the breakdown of fats. The National Institute of Health states that BHT/BHA are “reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.” A natural replacement that does the same job in preserving food would be vitamin E, which is more commonly found in the natural food section of grocery stores. BHA & BHT are often sold as "antioxidants". However, in her 2009 white paper "The truth about BHA, BHT, TBHQ and other antioxidants used as food additives", Sharla Race details the serious dangers of these ingredients. BHA & BHT are found in: Potato chips, lard, butter, cereal, instant mashed potatoes, preserved meat, beer, baked goods, dry beverage and dessert mixes, chewing gum and nutritional supplements.
3) MSG (Monosodium glutamate). A flavour enhancer which is known to damage the appetite regulation center in the area of the brain known as the hypothalamus, causing leptin resistance and thereby eliminating the feeling of being “full.” It’s known as an excitotoxin, a chemical which over stimulates dopamine production, creating a drug-like ‘rush.’ MSG also promotes liver inflammation and dysplasia. MSG is found in: Canned and boxed soups, dried soup mixes, frozen prepared meals, canned prepared meals, fast food, junk food, chinese food, stew, chili, canned beans, salad dressing.
4) Artificial Sweeteners. Used as a replacement for sugar, artificial sweeteners have recently been found to change the huge colony of bacteria in our intestines to favor the harmful bacteria that increase risk for diabetes and obesity. A study also found that women drinking two diet sodas per day are 50 percent more likely to die from heart-related disease. Common artificial sweeteners are: ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, ASPARTAME, GLYCEROL, HSH, ISOMALT, LACTITOL, MALTITOL, POLYDEXTROSE, SACCHARIN, SORBITOL and SUCRALOSE. In recent studies, Aspartame is now credited as one of the leading causes of Fibromyalgia and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). These artificial sweeteners are commonly found in: Children's multivitamins, (especially the chewable vitamins), Low-calorie yogurts, flavoured water, juices, gum, diet sodas, snack foods.
5) Potassium Bromate. A food additive often used in bread-making to soften and bleach the dough. Potassium bromate is banned in countries such as Canada, Brazil, and China because of its carcinogenic properties. It is particularly known to induce renal and thyroid cancer. Although most potassium bromate breaks down during the baking process, tests have confirmed that trace amounts can remain in finished baked goods. Potassium Bromate is most often found in: Fast-food sandwich buns, pre-made frozen pizzas, popular name brand doughs, processed baked goods.
6) Acrylamide. Acrylamide is a carcinogenic chemical that is a by-product of high temperature processing and is most often found in: Foods heated above 120 degrees celsius. Fried foods such as potatoes chips and french fries. Cigarette smoke also contains acrylamide.
7) Sodium Nitrite or Nitrate/Nitrates. This salt preservative is used primarily in processed meat preservation. Nitrates and Nitrites have been linked to pancreatic cancer in rats. Sodium Nitrite is found in: Breakfast sausage, hot dogs, jerkies, bacon, lunch meat and even meats in canned soup products.
8) High Fructose Corn Syrup. A processed and refined sugar extracted from corn, known to contribute to diabetes, metabolic syndrome, mercury build-up and more. Americans consume more calories from HFCS than any other source. Typically HFCS is found in: Sodas, candy, snack bars, concentrated juices, processed cereals (breakfast cereals), coffee syrups, icing, condiments.
9) Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO). BVO is a food additive that keeps citrus flavoring from separating in sodas and sports drinks.The additive is still legal in the US, even though it’s banned in the European Union, Japan and Australia because it contains bromine, the element found in flame retardants that has been linked to nerve damage in humans. Recently Fanta, Mountain Dew and Gatorade all announced that they’d remove BVO from their products, but many generic soda brands still use it. BVO is most often found in sodas and sports drinks.
10) Artificial Colours Blue, Green, Red & Yellow. The artificial colours blue #1 and #2, green #3, red #3 and #40, and yellow #6 have all been linked to thyroid, adrenal, bladder, kidney, and brain cancers. These "Certifiable Color Additives" as referred to by the US FDA, are derived from petroleum distillates or coal tars and are essentially synthetic chemicals created in laboratories. Other harmful additives include acesulfame potassium, sucralose, and sorbitol, all of which have been shown to mutate cells and DNA, thereby increasing your risk for cancer.
In all of the above cases, these ingredients are dangerous (at best), but can legally still be an included ingredient in anything consumable by humans in the USA and many other countries. Today millions of people all over the world, in an attempt to "eat right" take vitamins to help them live a long energetic healthy life. However most grocery and drugstore consumers have no idea that what they are actually ingesting is not only synthetic but many are known to be mutagenic and carcinogenic.
Therefore, it has become obvious to nutritional researchers that synthetics of any kind typically have the reverse effect of what most consumers are trying to accomplish. As a result, the problem consumers face, is much more severe than simply having a vitamin deficiency. Most consumers today are eating toxins masquerading as nutrients, leading to a wide range of problems spanning from anorexia to obesity, organ malfunction, confusion, depression and fatigue.
